When?

November, 29 2018

The Black Friday takes place every year on the Friday after Thanksgiving. This is always the fourth Friday of the month and at the same time for many Americans the opportunity to take a friday off and make it a long weekend. The Cyber Monday, which has made a name for itself through the Internet giant Amazon, is the Monday that introduces the week of Black Friday. Since everything that brings competitive advantages is allowed, various companies take advantage of this opportunity and offer a whole "Black Week", which runs from Monday to Monday and has Black Friday as its middle and high point.

Where?

Black Friday was originally a purely American phenomenon, but since 2006, when Apple was the first international company to offer its discount campaign in Germany, Black Friday has also been known to most Germans. With Apple, more and more German companies such as Media Markt, Saturn and Tchibo took part, so that the sales event in Germany is becoming more and more known and important for the retail trade.

Who?

Here, too, today's way of performing the ritual has somewhat distanced itself from the original ritual. While Black Friday actually only took place in the shops, Cyber Monday was only meant for online trading. This has mixed in such a way that in the USA everyone participates where they can, whereas in Germany sales take place almost exclusively in the online shops. Experts suspect, however, that the trend will also gradually become more prevalent offline. In addition, more and more smaller online shops are taking part in the discount Friday. After all, it's a good opportunity to sell your products below the original price, but to gain recognition and potential regular customers and ring in the Christmas season.

How?

How your Black Friday or your Black Week goes is up to you. The best thing to do first is to decide what time frame the offers should be in and what discount you can afford without making losses. You then set the discounts, so that your customers see how much they save when buying your product. Please be honest and don't exaggerate with the old price. There are enough shops cheating on Black Friday, which makes the buyers more careful and attentive every year and at least your regular customers will recognize a fraud on your part and in such a case consider whether they want to support your shop further on.

When the considerations about price reduction and time period have been made, it is just important to promote this upcoming offer. This can be done primarily in your shop itself with the features under Product > Marketing, plus you can add appealing pictures of the offer period and other exciting information to your home page.

In addition, you should not miss the chance to spread your offers outside your shop. You can do this at black-friday.de/, blackfridaysale.de or mydealz.de, for example. These portals are specially designed to give even the smallest shop the chance to make it big on Black Friday.
Inside info: Since April 2018 "Black Friday" is no longer a protected name. So take your chance and add Black Friday, Cyber Monday or Black Week to your Meta Description to rank Google searches for these keywords as high as possible.

Why?

The question that still arises now is, of course, why this hype is now triggering such an immense spending spree worldwide.

Time to introduce the most popular conspiracy theories.
Some swear that Black Friday had its origin at 29.11.1929, Black Friday (in the USA "Black Thursday" because of the time difference), the day of the stock market crash in New York. But since the first official Black Friday took place in 1966 most are sure that this connection is too far-fetched.

Another explanation of the name is that on this day the sellers can make their sales be in the black, i.e. positive range, or the metaphor that on this day the sellers get black hands counting from the money.

Objectively, Black Friday is also just THE Bridging Day of the Year in the USA and therefore reason for many Americans to do their first Christmas shopping online and in the city. Retailers have responded to this demand by creating a day that has gone down in history and has made demand grow exponentially year after year. In 2016, more than a billion euros in sales were generated in Germany only.

Why you should definitely take part is because the trend has not yet reached all small businesses, but the customers have. This advantage won't be there for long, because the number of online shops participating in Black Friday is increasing year by year. Don't miss your chance and be there this year at the biggest sales event of the year.
